Kulasek, who previously served as a deputy minister for state assets, took on his new role after being nominated by his New Left group, a junior partner in the government coalition.

Włodzimierz Czarzasty, a prominent left-wing politician and deputy parliamentary Speaker, told reporters on Tuesday that Kulasek's nomination was based on a government coalition agreement and consultations with Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

Kulasek replaces fellow left-wing lawmaker Dariusz Wieczorek, who resigned on December 19 amid allegations of nepotism and other unethical practices, state news agency PAP reported.
