While in Washington on Wednesday and Thursday, Jacek Czaputowicz will take part in a debate on America’s relations with Central and Eastern European countries, the Polish foreign ministry has said.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó and Czech Deputy Foreign Minister Aleš Chmelář are also expected to attend the Washington debate, held by the Atlantic Council think tank and entitled The United States and Central Europe: Celebrating Europe Whole and Free, Building the Next Century Together, according to the foreign ministry in Warsaw.

During his trip to America, Poland’s top diplomat is also due to attend a ministerial conference in the US capital on the advancement of religious freedom.

High-level representatives from more than 80 countries as well as religious leaders, members of nongovernmental organisations, civil society and international organisations are expected to take part in the Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom conference hosted by the US Department of State.

Poland this year spearheaded a United Nations resolution to condemn acts of violence based on religion, according to the country’s foreign ministry.

Poland's Czaputowicz said at a session of the UN General Assembly in New York in May that “the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion, which is commonly referred to as the right to freedom of religion or belief, is a universal right of every human being and the cornerstone of many other rights.”
