The Soviet Red Army liberated Auschwitz on January 27, 1945.
The anniversary events on that day in 2020 are to be attended by high-ranking politicians and royalty from many countries, including the presidents of Germany, Israel and Finland, the King of Spain, the royal couple from the Netherlands and the prime minister of Estonia.
More than 1.1 million people were killed by the Germans at the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp in Nazi-occupied southern Poland during World War II.
The victims were mostly European Jews, but also Poles, Roma, Soviet POWs and prisoners of other nationalities.
January 27 is marked as International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
