“Russia is rebuilding its past empire, trying to reconstruct the former Soviet Union to the greatest possible extent," opposition MEP Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz, a former Polish prime minister, said on Tuesday.

He added that Moscow "is keen on weakening its neighbours and hampering the integration of its former territories with the West."

"We should be aware of this in order not to be guided by naivete in our relations with Russia,” Cimoszewicz told European lawmakers.

Michał Owczarek has the details.
