During the trip, Mattarella is scheduled to meet with Polish officials to discuss security issues and the future of the European Union.
On Sunday evening, he is expected to meet with representatives of the Italian community in Poland and Italian officials from the EU border control agency, Frontex.
On Monday, President Mattarella will hold talks with Poland's President Andrzej Duda and First Lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda at the Presidential Palace in Warsaw.
According to Marcin Przydacz, a Polish presidential aide, the talks will focus on international cooperation between Poland and Italy, the upcoming NATO summit in Vilnius, as well as migration and security issues.
"Italy is an important partner within NATO. Security issues and strengthening the eastern flank of NATO will be among the topics of discussion" between the two leaders, Przydacz told the Polish news agency PAP.
Referring to the migrant crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border, he said: "Poland has been subject to hybrid actions by Belarus supported by Russia, but also our southern partners [Italy ed.] are under migration pressure, so this exchange of experiences and cooperation within the tools provided by the EU is very important."
On Tuesday, President Mattarella is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and other senior officials.
Later, he will travel to Krakow, where he is expected to visit the Auschwitz concentration camp and participate in the "March of the Living" ceremony on Wednesday.
