While Austrian police said that all victims were Austrian nationals, one of them also held Polish citizenship, Poland’s foreign ministry told public broadcaster Polish Radio.
“With deep sorrow, we acknowledge the news of the tragedy in Graz. Among the victims was a Polish teenager. Our thoughts are with the families,” the Polish embassy in Vienna said in a social media post on Wednesday.
Among those killed was a 59-year-old teacher at the Borg high school. The youngest victim was 14. The others were students aged between 15 and 17.
Eleven people remain hospitalized in Graz, with doctors describing their conditions as stable. Two patients have already been moved from intensive care to general wards.
Austria has declared a period of national mourning until Friday. At 10 a.m. on Wednesday - exactly 24 hours after the attack - the country observed a minute of silence to honor the victims.
