Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński is expected to issue the formal order later on Tuesday.
“Traffic will resume at midnight from Wednesday to Thursday,” Donald Tusk said in a statement released via social media.
The border closures, affecting both road and rail crossings, were introduced as a precaution during the Russian-Belarusian Zapad 2025 military exercises, held from 12 to 16 September.
Prime Minister Tusk explained that the measure had served its purpose and considered the economic interests of Polish transport companies, including PKP Cargo.
However, he stressed that the government retains the right to close the border again if the situation requires it, for example in response to rising tensions or aggressive actions by neighbouring countries.
The initial closure came into effect on the night of 11–12 September, following an order from the Interior Minister, and was implemented as a precaution during the Zapad 2025 military exercises.
