Over 570,000 declarations about an intention to employ a foreigner were registered with the ministry between January and April, up 23 percent year on year.
About 13,000 seasonal work permits were issued, 26 percent more than in the first four months of last year, the ministry said.
Paweł Kaczmarczyk, director of the Centre of Migration Research at the University of Warsaw, said: “These data indicate that in 2019 we may expect a record number of foreigners working in Poland, although the growth rate will not be as fast as in 2015 and 2016.”
The growth is the result of an upswing on the labour market, the Dziennik daily said.
Jakub Borowski, chief economist at Crédit Agricole Bank, said: “There were 84,000 vacancies on offer at Polish labour offices at the end of June, twice as many as in June 2012, when there was a slowdown in business.”
He added: “That is why workers from abroad are needed.”
