It cited Duda's chief of staff, Paweł Szrot, as saying that the president was happy with Glapiński's record so far as governor of the Polish central bank, including "his efforts aimed at limiting the economic impact of the pandemic."

Glapiński's reappointment is subject to approval by parliament.

His six-year term as governor of the National Bank of Poland (NBP) ends on June 21.

Glapiński graduated from the Warsaw School of Economics in 1972. In the 1990s, he twice served as a government minister and then held a range of public, academic and business roles before taking over at the central bank on June 21, 2016.
