Police seized more than 1,200 fake banknotes and professional printing equipment from his home.
Investigators from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBŚP) said the man had been under surveillance for several months. Initially thought to be part of an organised crime network, further investigation revealed he was working alone.
Massive counterfeit currency operation exposed in Poland
Authorities reported that the suspect sold high-quality counterfeit notes online, replicating currencies from countries across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, including the US, Poland, the Czech Republic, Japan, China, and several eurozone nations.
The fake bills were sophisticated, featuring serial numbers, security features, and design elements that closely mimicked genuine currency. Collaboration with European law enforcement confirmed that some of the counterfeit banknotes had already circulated in the Czech Republic.
During the raid in southern Poland in August, police also seized laptops, printers, specialized paper, and inks used to produce the counterfeit money.
The suspect has been detained in Szczecin, northwestern Poland, and charged with counterfeiting.
Officials say the investigation is ongoing as they work to determine the full extent of his operations.
