“My meeting with my Chinese counterpart was very good; we resolved several concrete issues, such as unblocking Polish poultry exports. But on the issue of the Belarusian border, we are firm. If China helps us, as it once did, to stop Belarusian provocations, the border will be opened,” Sikorski, Poland’s foreign minister and deputy prime minister, said in an interview with Polsat News, referring to Monday’s visit of the Chinese foreign minister to Helenów near Warsaw.

China backs Poland’s G20 bid and may pressure Belarus over Polish-Belarus border tensions

Reporters from the Polish edition of Newsweek, citing diplomatic sources, have learned that China has pledged to support Poland’s bid to join the G20 and intends to pressure the Lukashenko regime to ease tensions at the border.

Wang Yi reportedly indicated to Sikorski that the Chinese authorities would “hold a frank conversation” with President Lukashenko about the situation at the Polish-Belarusian border, noting that its closure is economically disadvantageous for China.

According to Jacek Pawlicki of Newsweek, “ostensibly neutral China” has exploited Russia’s invasion of Ukraine economically, “effectively siding with the Kremlin.”

At the same time, relations between Beijing and Washington underwent a radical shift - China has ceased to be merely a rival, becoming in practice the main threat to the United States.

In response to the growing threat from Beijing, the U.S. has changed its NATO policy, planning a partial withdrawal of troops from Europe and signaling to allies that they must take responsibility for their own security.
