Polish unemployment edges up to 5.1% in June: gov't

Poland’s unemployment rate inched up to 5.1 percent in June, from 5 percent in May, the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy said on Friday.

There were around 79,700 people without jobs across the nation at the end of June, up by 14,200 from a month earlier, according to the government.

The state-run Statistics Poland agency (GUSreported last month that the Polish jobless rate had dropped to 5 percent in May, from 5.2 percent in April.

Meanwhile, the European Union's Eurostat statistics agency, which uses a different methodology, estimated on Thursday that unemployment in Poland stood at 3.3 percent in May, marking the third-lowest rate in the 27-nation bloc.
