Warsaw’s main railway hub, Warszawa Centralna, will close to passengers from midday on Saturday as renovation works begin on the tracks and switches, according to PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe, Poland’s rail infrastructure operator.

The final passenger train is scheduled to arrive at the station around noon, after which crews will begin a week-long modernisation project requiring a complete suspension of train services at the capital’s busiest terminal.

During the closure, travellers will be redirected to other major stations across the city, including Warszawa Wschodnia (East), Zachodnia (West) and Gdańska.

Some long-distance trains will terminate earlier than usual, while others will operate via alternative routes.

PKP said the overhaul aims to boost the station’s capacity and allow it to handle more trains once work is completed.

Full service at Warszawa Centralna is expected to resume on 16 November.
