The checkpoints at Kuźnica Białostocka and Bobrowniki - located in the Podlaskie region near Poland’s border with Belarus - resumed operations at midnight.
Until now, only the crossings at Terespol (for passenger and rail traffic) and Kukuryki (for freight) had remained open.
The closures were introduced amid escalating tensions in 2021, when Polish authorities reported large-scale attempts by Belarus to push migrants across the frontier.
In response, Poland strengthened its border fortifications, built an electronic surveillance barrier and increased the number of Border Guard personnel.
According to the interior ministry, these measures have maintained what it describes as a 98% level of border integrity.
The ministry said the decision to reopen the two crossings followed security assessments, consultations with local authorities and pressure from regional businesses, who had long argued that cross-border movement is vital for Podlaskie’s economy.
The Podlaskie governor, Jacek Brzozowski, visiting the Bobrowniki crossing shortly after midnight, emphasised that safety considerations remained paramount.
Under the new arrangements, Kuźnica Białostocka is open to passenger traffic only, excluding buses.
Bobrowniki, by contrast, admits buses and freight vehicles, but only those registered in the EU, the European Economic Area and Switzerland.
