The event, which takes place every two years, will be held in the Austrian city of Graz from Wednesday to Sunday.

Over the five days, students, graduates and employees between the ages of 18 and 26 are set to fight it out in dozens of disciplines, from cooking and hairdressing to vocational skills characteristic of what is known as the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the IAR news agency reported.

Paweł Poszytek, who leads the Foundation for the Development of the Education System (FRSE), a Polish non-profit organisation, said that EuroSkills was “the most high-profile, difficult and demanding” event of its kind in Europe.

“Winning it gets you a ticket to a global career,” he added.

The 17-strong Polish team will compete across 16 specialisations, from floristry and graphic design, through welding and hotel services, to floor laying and heavy-vehicle technology.

The corresponding worldwide event is called WorldSkills, and Poland is seeking to host it in 2027.
