The "Family 500+" programme, which benefits around 7 million children nationwide, has also helped reduce poverty by increasing household income, Family and Social Policy Minister Marlena Maląg said.
Saturday marked exactly seven years since the "Family 500+" initiative was launched by Poland’s ruling conservatives, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
Poland’s socially conservative Law and Justice government, which came to power in late 2015, aims to ease the burdens of child rearing by giving families with children a handout of PLN 500 (EUR 107, USD 116) a month per child.
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said in a social media message that the initiative aided parents nationwide and was an investment in the nation’s future.
Payouts to parents have exceeded PLN 220 billion (EUR 47 billion, USD 51 billion) since the programme was launched on April 1, 2016, according to officials.
