The number 5-seed young tennis star powered past two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 in their three-set encounter on Friday.

The 20-year-old Pole’s semi-final match with first seed Barty at the Australian Open tournament in Adelaide is set to take place on Saturday.

Świątek, who last month teamed up with a new interim coach, Tomasz Wiktorowski, is defending her title at the Adelaide International.

The Polish player reached the fourth round of the women’s singles at the 2021 Australian Open.

Świątek in October 2020 won the French Open, claiming her maiden Grand Slam title and becoming the first Pole to lift a Grand Slam singles trophy.
