European Games end, Polish athletes earn 50 medals

Poland won 50 medals, 13 gold, 19 silver and 18 bronze, at the 2023 European Games, which ended in its southern city of Kraków on Sunday.

The medal tally marked Team Poland's best European Games performance ever, placing it sixth in the overall table.

Italy finished top of the standings, with 100 medals, including 35 golds.

On the last day of the Games, Robert Krasoń won a gold medal for Poland in kickboxing, while Klaudia Zwolińska took the silver in the women’s C1 canoe slalom competition.

On Saturday, Polish ski jumper Dawid Kubacki won the men's large hill competition.

A total of 370 Polish athletes, 188 men and 182 women, competed for medals at the 3rd European Games, which opened in Poland's Kraków on June 21 and lasted until July 2.

The 2023 European Games featured 12 days of competition in 29 sports and provided opportunities to win European championship medals and a pathway to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in some of the sports.

More than 7,000 athletes from 48 countries took part in the event, which was held at 25 venues in 13 southern Polish cities.

Poland won 14 medals, three gold, one silver and 10 bronze, at the 2nd European Games in Minsk, Belarus in 2019.

Team Poland scooped 20 medals, two gold, eight silver and 10 bronze, at the 1st European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan, in 2015.
