Motorsports: Poland's Goczał wins Stage 4 of Dakar Rally

Polish driver Eryk Goczał has won Stage 4 of the 2024 Dakar Rally among the Challenger cars (T3), increasing his lead in this class' general ranking.

The fourth stage of this year's Dakar Rally took place on Tuesday, with the route leading from Al-Salamiya to Al-Hofuf in Saudi Arabia, over 631 kilometres, according to the organisers.

It included a 299km special stage, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Poland's Eryk Goczał, with co-driver Oriol Mena of Spain, finished first in the Challenger class, with a time of 2 hours, 58 minutes and 28 seconds. 

Eryk Goczał's uncle Michał Goczał came second, with Chile's Ignacio Casale third, and Marek Goczał, Eryk's father, fourth, the PAP news agency reported. 

After four stages, Poland's Eryk Goczał tops the ranking in the T3 class, ahead of Marek Goczał and America's Mitchell Guthrie, according to news outlets.

Eryk Goczał has won 3 out of the 4 stages so far as well as the prologue, the PAP news agency reported.

He won the 2023 Dakar Rally in the lighter SSV category.

In all, 23 Poles are taking part in the 2024 Dakar Rally, news outlets reported.

It comprises 7,891 km of roads, tracks and dunes, including 4,727 km of specials, in Saudi Arabia, according to the organisers. 

The 2024 Dakar Rally takes place over two weeks, finishing in Yanbu, on the shores of the Red Sea, on January 19, the PAP news agency reported.
