With its home closed and all performances suspended, the company has allowed music lovers to stream some of its past productions on their tablets and computer screens free of charge.

Bizet’s Carmen, which was due to be staged on March 28 and 31, and April 2, will be available to opera fans on those days on the vod.teatrwielki.pl platform.

Directed by Andrzej Chyra, the production stars Israeli singer Rinat Shaham in the title role.

Other productions offered as part of the programme include two works by the father of Polish national opera, Stanisław Moniuszko: Halka and The Haunted Manor, the latter directed by David Pountney, a prominent British opera producer.

The vod.teatrwielki.pl platform contains a wide range of films about the history of the Warsaw opera house, which goes back to the early 19th century. There are also films that take viewers on a conducted tour behind the scenes of what is one of Europe’s finest opera houses and theatres.
