The Amadeus Chamber Orchestra has been short-listed for its album of music by the Polish composer Grażyna Bacewicz, entitled Music for Chamber Orchestra vol. III, Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

Bacewicz’s string works are performed under renowned conductor Agnieszka Duczmal, who is also the founder and artistic director of the Amadeus Chamber Orchestra, officials said.

Duczmal told Polish Radio: “The fact that the BBC nominated our recordings, the music that we recorded here for Polish Radio, that was released by a Polish record label, DUX, and performed by a Polish orchestra, is amazing. And it’s all down to one marvellous composer, Grażyna Bacewicz, her character and genius.”

Meanwhile, the BBC Music Magazine wrote: “In a set of recordings spanning a number of years, conductor Agnieszka Duczmal and the Amadeus Chamber Orchestra revived a series of string works by one of Poland’s greatest, and often unsung, musical voices.”

The BBC described the performances as “gutsy,” as well as “dynamic and full of life.”

Nominees for 2023 BBC Music Magazine Orchestral Award

Polish Radio’s Amadeus Chamber Orchestra will compete for the coveted BBC Music Magazine Orchestral Award with two fellow nominees.

The Oslo Symphony Orchestra has been short-listed for its album of orchestral works by Jean Sibelius, under conductor Klaus Mäkelä.

Also nominated is Chineke! Orchestra for its performance of a collection of orchestral pieces by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, under conductors Kevin John Edusei, Fawzi Haimor, Roderick Cox, Kalena Bovell and Anthony Parnther, according to the BBC.

The winner will be chosen through an online vote, which is already underway and is set to continue until the end of February, the IAR news agency reported.
