Organizers said the section, launched in 2010, spotlights emerging filmmakers and projects that might otherwise struggle to reach wider audiences. This year’s lineup features:

  • “Censurada,” directed by Mario Garza (cinematography: Nicolas Aguado, Ianire Beriain)
  • “East of Wall,” Kate Beecroft (Austin Shelton)
  • “In The Shadow,” Salem Salavati (Amir Aliveisi)
  • “Ojciec” (“Father”), Tereza Nvotová (Adam Suzin)
  • “Raptures,” Jon Blåhed (Mimmo Hildén)
  • “Reedland,” Sven Bresser (Sam du Pon)
  • “Solitary,” Eamonn Murphy (David Christopher Lynch)

The Polish Filmmakers Association is the patron of the debut competition.

Organizers also named the first three titles for the main competition: Agnieszka Holland’s “Franz Kafka” (Tomasz Naumiuk), Chloé Zhao’s “Hamnet” (Łukasz Żal) and Petra Biondina Volpe’s “Late Shift” (Judith Kaufmann).

Documentary director and producer Liz Garbus will receive the festival’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Documentary, accompanied by a retrospective. Her recent works include the series “Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer,” “One Night in Idaho” and “Harry & Meghan.” Garbus has earned Oscar nominations for “The Farm: Angola, USA” and “What Happened, Miss Simone?,” with the latter also winning an Emmy. She earlier received an Emmy in 2007 as producer of “Demons of Abu Ghraib,” and has additional Emmy nominations for “Bobby Fischer Against the World,” “The Fourth Estate” and the season-four finale of “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
