Poland’s Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK) said investigations on the construction area have revealed evidence of past settlements from multiple prehistoric cultures, including Lusatian and Przeworsk, such as semi-subterranean dwellings, middens and kilns.

Storage pits, hearths and wells from early and late medieval times and the early modern period were also found. The most frequent items are fragments of pottery.

According to CPK, the discoveries cover periods from the Neolithic (about 5200–1900 B.C.) through the Bronze Age (about 2300–700 B.C.), the Roman influence period (from the start of the Common Era to the mid-5th century), and into the early and late Middle Ages (about the 5th to 15th centuries) and early modernity (16th to 18th centuries).

Under the CPK program, a central airport is planned between Warsaw and Łódź alongside a high-speed rail system. The airport is to handle 34 million passengers annually at launch, with a design enabling flexible expansion.

Per the current schedule, construction in the municipalities of Baranów, Wiskitki and Teresin is to begin in 2026. The airport is slated to obtain necessary certifications in 2031 and open in 2032 together with the first high-speed rail segment: Warsaw–CPK–Łódź.

The investment cost through 2032 is estimated at PLN 131.7 billion (EUR 31.1 billion).
