The play, produced at Broadway’s Samuel J. Friedman Theater, won nominations for Best New Play, Best Direction of a Play (Jo Bonney), Best Featured Actor in a Play (David Zayas), and Best Featured Actresses in a Play (Katy Sullivan and Kara Young).
Cost of Living examines the relationship between disabled and able-bodied people. Its protagonists include an unemployed truck driver, his recently paralyzed ex-wife, an arrogant, brilliant doctoral student with cerebral palsy, and his new caregiver.
In 2018, Cost of Living won Majok the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
She is currently a member of a team working on a new musical adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel The Great Gatsby, which is set to be staged on Broadway.
Majok was born in 1985 in Bytom, southern Poland. She moved to the United States with her family when she was five. She lives in New York and is married to Polish-born US actor Josiah Bania.
Her play Ironbound is now showing at Warsaw’s National Theatre.
