Yulianna Avdeeva, the 2010 winner, and Garrick Ohlsson, the 1970 winner, will play Francis Poulenc’s Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra.
Bruce Liu, who won in 2021, will perform Camille Saint-Saëns’ Piano Concerto No. 5.
All three will then join Dang Thai Son, the 1980 winner, for Johann Sebastian Bach’s Concerto for Four Pianos.
The evening will open with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Andrzej Boreyko, performing Chopin’s Polonaise in A major in an orchestral version, according to Poland’s National Chopin Institute, which organizes the competition.
Eighty-four pianists have qualified for this year’s event, including 28 from China, 13 from Japan and 13 from Poland.
Chinese pianist Ziye Tao will be the first competitor to perform when the competition begins in earnest on Friday.
Founded in 1927, the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw is one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious piano contests.
