Indian award for Polish academic

Joanna Jurewicz, a professor at the University of Warsaw's Faculty of Oriental Studies and the chair of East Asia Studies, has received the Distinguished Indologist Award 2022 from the government of India.

The award was established by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in 2015 to recognize individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to Indian culture and society by studying, teaching or conducting research in Indian philosophy, thought, history, art, languages or literature.

"We recognize renowned indologists from around the world every year with the Friend of India Award, and this year and the recipient of this award happens to be a renowned academic from this country, Prof. Joanna Jurewicz," Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, the president of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, said at the award ceremony at the Indian embassy in Warsaw earlier this month.
