Russia’s invasion of Ukraine four years ago sparked Europe’s most devastating conflict since World War II, causing massive civilian suffering while reshaping the post-Cold War order.

Ukrainian resistance has, from the start, denied Moscow its goal of carving up the country.

The United States has brokered talks between Kyiv and Moscow as part of the Trump administration’s yearlong peace effort, but key disputes—over occupied territory and Ukraine’s future security—remain unresolved.

As the fighting enters its fifth year on Tuesday, it shows no signs of stopping anytime soon, Tadeusz Iwański of the Warsaw-based Centre for Eastern Studies says in an interview with Michał Owczarek.
