Włodzimierz Korczyński and his wife Tatiana, who are expecting the birth of their ninth child, were invited to the event by the Eastern Church Support Team of the Polish Bishops’ Conference.

Korczyński told Poland's Family News Service website that, for his family, “the trip to Rome and the opportunity to pray for peace is a blessing but also a responsibility.”

He added that it is "a great honour" for his family to represent Ukraine and pray for peace in his homeland.

“God can perform a miracle at any time, including the conversion of Russia,” Korczyński said.

The Korczyńskis have been residing in Poland for several years.

Włodzimierz has been involved in the transport of humanitarian assistance to Ukraine since the start of the war.

He told the Family News Service: “Ukraine calls me! I want to be there and serve others.”

He added that helping Ukraine in the form of weapons deliveries "is a good thing, but prayer is the most important."

The theme of this year's World Meeting of Families in Rome is “Family Love: A Vocation and a Path to Holiness.” The event runs until Sunday.

The first World Meeting of Families took place in Rome in 1994 at the request of Pope John Paul II.
