The Ukrainian General Staff said on Facebook on Monday: “The Ukrainian Armed Forces are grateful to Radio Poland’s Ukraine Section/Polish Radio for Ukraine for its unceasing work on the website ‘Ukraine defends itself against Russia:' for systematic, objective, comprehensive and substantive coverage of the activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as regards the defence of the country, and of the development of Polish-Ukrainian relations, especially in the military sphere.”

In a Polish-language post, the Ukrainian General Staff also wrote: "The war has shown who our sisters and brothers are. For our freedom and for yours!"

It added: “The Armed Forces of Ukraine are grateful for Poland’s support and assistance.”

Ukraine’s military command thanked Poland “for consistent, multi-faceted support over many years and for effective assistance in reforming and raising the combat capability of the Ukrainian armed forces.”

It also thanked the Polish people “for opening their hearts and homes to the millions of Ukrainian women and children who have found refuge in Poland.”

“A heartfelt thank you!” the Ukrainian General Staff said.

'A great honour:' Radio Poland chief

Radio Poland’s Director Andrzej Rybałt said it was “a great honour” to be thanked by “the army that is defending Ukraine, Poland and all of Europe against Putin’s crimes.”

He said: “A 'thank you' from the heroic Ukrainian Army, at a time of the biggest military conflict in Europe since World War II, published on the official website of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, right next to words of thanks to the highest Polish authorities and the Polish Army, represents a great distinction and honour for all the Polish Radio staff and associates; yet it also obliges us to continue our efforts to develop public radio broadcasting in line with the standards of engaged journalism of the free world.”

Polish Radio stands with Ukraine

Ever since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, the Polish public radio broadcaster has been airing Ukrainian-language news bulletins three times a day on Polish Radio 1 and 3, the broadcaster's IAR news agency reported.

Meanwhile, Radio Poland’s Ukraine Section is also broadcasting for Ukrainian listeners.

These Polish Radio broadcasts are available in large parts of Ukraine and almost throughout the whole of Europe, according to executives.

Moreover, Polish Radio has been airing the programming of Ukraine’s UKR1 public radio on its digital DAB+ service as well as its web player and mobile app.

In addition, on May 2, Polish Radio launched a new FM station, Polish Radio for Ukraine. It features content by Ukraine’s public radio UKR1 and Polish Radio’s External Service, also known as Radio Poland.
