The Polish defence ministry said in a tweet that the conversation between Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak and the EU's Gen. Robert Brieger also focused on "the implementation of the EU Strategic Compass."

It explained that the Strategic Compass "is an action plan to strengthen the EU's security and defence policy."

On Thursday, Brieger met in private with the chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces, Gen. Rajmund Andrzejczak, state news agency PAP reported.

He later told reporters that the talks had focused on the war in Ukraine.

He also praised Poland for supporting Ukraine and said that EU member states must work closer together “to deter Russia and any other potential aggressors.”

Friday was day 142 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
