European Council chief Charles Michel has said in a statement that the meeting in the Czech capital would focus on "the three most pressing - and interlinked - issues for us all, namely Russia’s war in Ukraine, energy and the economic situation."
Friday's gathering is also expected to "discuss how to continue providing strong economic, military, political and financial support to Ukraine for as long as it takes," according to Michel.
"We will also examine how best to protect our critical infrastructure," he announced.
On Thursday, EU leaders held the first-ever meeting of the European Political Community in Prague.
Poland’s Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki told reporters afterward that the meeting highlighted Russia’s isolation, "not only from EU countries, but also from other countries that border it directly."
All of these countries have condemned Russia's aggression against Ukraine, he said.
Ahead of Friday's summit of the European Council, Morawiecki reiterated his appeal to EU member states to reform the bloc's Emissions Trading System (ETS).
"We all know the problem of energy prices in Europe today," he said. "The components of these prices are manufacturing costs and ETS costs. The ETS is a European tool that is in our hands."
Friday is day 226 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
