In a Sky News report from the Ukraine war, aired on Monday, one of the Ukrainian army’s Poland-donated Krabs can be seen emerging from under the trees to fire at a Russian target, near the eastern Ukrainian city of Bakhmut.

The Ukrainian commander tells the UK broadcaster he’s “lucky” to have a Krab at his disposal as Ukrainian forces repel Russian attacks on the key city of the eastern Donetsk region.

Polish gun howitzers in Ukraine’s war effort

The Polish-made 155 mm NATO-compatible Krab self-propelled tracked gun howitzer, featuring a 52-calibre long gun, is an important and oft-praised part of Ukrainian weaponry as the country defends itself against the Russian war of aggression, the tvp.info website reported on Tuesday.

Now the Sky News report again shines the spotlight on the performance of the Polish Krabs, noting that the government in Warsaw donated a batch of these gun howitzers to Ukraine at the very beginning of the Russian invasion, tvp.info wrote.

Ukrainian troops interviewed by Sky News’ John Sparks say that, even though instructions on the vehicle are all in Polish, they "quickly learn the mechanics of weapons from every corner of the world,” as cited by tvp.info.

Better than Germany’s Panzerhaubitze 2000?

According to Sky News, “it would have been difficult to repel Russian attacks without the Krabs,” tvp.info reported, adding that the Polish gun howitzers have been publicly praised by officials at Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence.

According to many reports, “the Krabs are performing much better in Ukraine than Germany’s Panzerhaubitze 2000,” tvp.info reported.

Tuesday was day 244 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
