Yevgeny Viktorovich Prigozhin is a Russian entrepreneur whose companies include the mercenary Wagner group, active in Ukraine and Syria among other countries, and restaurants which have often served Putin. For the latter reason he is sometimes called "Putin's chef".

The Wagner Group has recruited soldiers from Russian prisons. Sky News published reports on 4 January that Prigozhin personally welcomed back convict-soldiers who have completed a 6-month "tour of duty". (According to the deal struck, convicts who serve 6 months in Ukraine will be released back into Russian society as free citizens.)

Prigozhin's talk reminded the ex-convicts that they need to behave differently now they are free citizens:

"Don't drink too much, don't take drugs and don't rape - as the saying goes, sex only for love or for money."

He continued that if the desire to kill enemies appears, they must return to Ukraine for that.
