As confirmed by Ukrainian Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk, electricity supplies to the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant were fully restored on the evening of Wednesday, 1 October, following a temporary outage caused by Russian drone attacks.

Radiation levels at the site remain within safe limits and pose no threat to the public.

According to an official statement from the Ministry of Energy, electricity supplies to all Chernobyl facilities affected by hostile shelling of infrastructure in the city of Slavutych have been fully restored.

Reports cited by ABC News noted that over 20 Shahed drones launched by Russia targeted Slavutych, the city that provides power to Chernobyl, temporarily cutting electricity to the site and affecting the sarcophagus protecting the destroyed fourth reactor.

Zelenskyy warns of nuclear risks from Russian drones

President Zelenskyy, currently in Copenhagen for an informal European Political Community summit, warned that Russian drones are endangering safety at both Chernobyl and Europe’s largest nuclear power plant.

“Russia’s violations of European airspace require an effective response. We are ready to ramp up the production of drones, electronic warfare systems, and other critical components, including through joint production formats and with the help of the SAFE instrument. All of this can protect all of us – the whole of Europe,” the Ukrainian president said on social media, sharing a photo with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
