The agency said the measure was taken in connection with Russian attacks on targets in neighbouring Ukraine.

“Due to the need to ensure unrestricted operations for military aviation, the airports in Radom and Lublin have been closed for the duration of the activities,” the agency said in a statement on X.

Poland scrambled aircraft and put its air defence systems on alert as Russia launched a new massive air attack on Ukraine on Thursday morning, military officials said.

The Operational Command of Poland's Armed Forces said in a statement that "all necessary procedures have been initiated" to ensure the safety of Polish airspace.

It added that it was "monitoring the situation on an ongoing basis."

The statement also said that Polish and allied aircraft were activated early in the day, with the Operational Command taking steps to ensure safety in areas near the Ukrainian border.

Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.

Thursday marks the 1,345th day of the war.
