Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Ukrainian President’s Office and former chief of military intelligence, announced on social media that the delegation had arrived in the US to hold key discussions with American partners on the details of a potential peace agreement.
He said a joint meeting was planned with US special envoy Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, advisor to President Donald Trump and his son-in-law, as well as US Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll, and stressed that Ukraine was working to achieve a just and lasting peace.
Rustem Umerov, Ukraine’s chief negotiator and secretary of the National Security and Defence Council, is leading the talks, accompanied by Budanov and David Arakhamia, head of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s Servant of the People parliamentary faction.
According to Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States, Olha Stefanishyna, discussions will focus on two key documents: a security guarantees agreement and a package outlining Ukraine’s reconstruction and economic prosperity.
President Zelensky has previously indicated that the documents are nearly finalised and expressed hope that they could be signed on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos next week.
