The driver is accused of causing a traffic disaster resulting in the death of one person and with the possession of amphetamines, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

A spokeswoman for the Warsaw prosecutor’s office, Mirosława Chyr, said that during the arrest the suspect pleaded guilty to the charges and explained that he had taken amphetamines on Thursday before starting work.

The man is now facing up to 15 years in prison.

Over 20 people were injured, five of them seriously, in the accident on Thursday on the Polish capital’s northern Grota-Roweckiego Bridge, IAR added.

Forty people had been aboard the bus at the time.
