Poland reports 8,427 new coronavirus cases, 541 more deaths

Poland on Thursday reported 8,427 new coronavirus infections and 541 more deaths, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,785,353 and fatalities to 67,073.

Of the new cases confirmed on Thursday, 1,328 were in the densely populated southern coal-mining region of Silesia.

Meanwhile, 1,025 new infections were reported in the central region of Mazowieckie, which includes the national capital Warsaw.

The southwestern province of Dolnośląskie, which is home to the major city of Wrocławhad the third-highest number of new infections confirmed by officials on Thursday, at 934.

The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are 402 people with pre-existing medical conditions and 139 who died directly because of COVID-19, the Polish health ministry said.

On Wednesday, Poland confirmed 636 deaths and 8,895 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with 460 deaths and 5,709 fresh cases day earlier.

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country more than a year ago.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

24,667 in hospitals, 202,361 quarantined

The health ministry announced on Thursday morning that 24,667 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 2,895 of them on ventilators, with a further 202,361 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,483,780 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, including 9,806 over the last 24 hours, the health ministry also said.
