Poland reports 1,075 new coronavirus cases, 46 more deaths

Poland on Sunday reported 1,075 new coronavirus infections and 46 more deaths, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,865,622 and fatalities to 72,928.

The central region of Mazowieckie, which includes the national capital Warsaw, had the highest number of new infections confirmed by officials on Sunday, at 142.

Meanwhile, 130 new infections were reported in the densely populated southern coal-mining region of Silesia.

The western province of Wielkopolskie, which is home to the major city of Poznań, had the third-highest number of new infections confirmed by officials on Sunday, at 116.

The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are 38 people with pre-existing medical conditions and 8 who died directly because of COVID-19, the Polish health ministry said.

On Saturday, Poland confirmed 191 deaths and 1,516 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with 191 deaths and 1,679 fresh cases a day earlier.

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country more than a year ago.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

7,943 in hospitals, 86,700 quarantined

The health ministry announced on Sunday morning that 7,943 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 1,138 of them on ventilators, with a further 86,700 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,624,724 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, including 3,038 over the last 24 hours, the health ministry also said.
