Poland confirms 103 new coronavirus cases, 17 more deaths

Poland on Wednesday reported 103 new coronavirus infections and 17 more deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,880,503 and fatalities to 75,114.

Of the new cases confirmed on Wednesdaythe most—14—were in the western province of Wielkopolskie, which is home to the major city of Poznań.

The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are six people with pre-existing medical conditions and 11 who died directly because of COVID-19, the health ministry said.

On TuesdayPoland confirmed 10 deaths and 96 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with one death and 38 fresh cases a day earlier.

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country early last year.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

504 in hospitals, 101,915 quarantined

The Polish health ministry announced on Wednesday morning that 504 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 73 of them on ventilators, with a further 101,915 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,652,293 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, the health ministry also said.
