Survey finds Poles more positive than negative about economy amid pandemic

Thirty-four percent of Poles say the country’s economy is in good shape, while 28 percent disagree, a new survey has found.

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, 33 percent are neutral on the issue, while 5 percent are undecided, according to pollster CBOS.

The number of those positive about the economy increased by 4 percentage points from the previous survey a month earlier, while the number of negative comments rose by 3 percentage points, according to the poll.

Meanwhile, the percentage of respondents who say the country as a whole is headed in the right direction decreased to 33 percent from 36 percent in June, the survey also found.

Forty-six percent, up from 43 percent in June, said things in the country were moving in the wrong direction, according to CBOS.

The poll was conducted from July 1 to 11 on a representative, random sample of 1,166 adult respondents.

The International Monetary Fund this week upgraded its forecast for Polish GDP growth in 2021 to 4.6 percent, from a previous projection of 3.5 percent.

Poland’s central bank this month predicted that the Polish economy would expand 5 percent this year, followed by 5.4 percent growth in 2022.
