Poland reports 153 new coronavirus cases, 2 more deaths

Poland on Friday reported 153 new coronavirus infections and two more deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,882,786 and fatalities to 75,259.

Of the new cases confirmed on Fridaythe most—23—were in the southern province of Małopolskie, which includes the historic city of Kraków.

The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are two people with pre-existing medical conditions, the health ministry said.

OThursdayPoland confirmed five new deaths and 167 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with three deaths and 138 fresh cases a day earlier.

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country early last year.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

295 in hospitals, 79,433 quarantined

The Polish health ministry announced on Friday morning that 295 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 38 of them on ventilators, with a further 79,433 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,653,608 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, the health ministry also said.

Officials have warned that the number of COVID-19 infections in the country could rise in the coming weeks as the Delta variant of the coronavirus begins to spread more quickly.
