Poland confirms 164 new coronavirus cases, 4 more deaths

Poland on Tuesday reported 164 new coronavirus infections and four more deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,883,284 and fatalities to 75,265.

Of the new cases confirmed on Tuesdaythe most—35—were in the southern province of Małopolskie, which is home to Poland's second-largest city of Kraków.

The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are two people with pre-existing medical conditions and two others who died directly because of COVID-19, the health ministry said.

On Monday, Poland confirmed no new deaths and 91 new coronavirus infections nationwide.

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country early last year.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

295 in hospitals, 77,004 quarantined

The Polish health ministry announced on Tuesday morning that 295 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 40 of them on ventilators, with a further 77,004 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,653,934 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, the health ministry also said.

Officials have warned that the number of COVID-19 infections in the country could rise in the coming weeks as the Delta variant of the coronavirus begins to spread more quickly.
