Andrzej Duda will host Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky in his winter presidential retreat in the southern town of Wisła, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

The two heads of state will not be meeting reporters afterwards, officials said.

Earlier this week, Duda consulted with senior government ministers in Warsaw to develop a stance in relation to allies and Russia, according to his aides.

“We are seeking to actively anticipate possible developments,” the president's security-policy aide Paweł Soloch said.

He added that NATO as a whole was considering military support for Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Poland’s Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak on Wednesday held telephone conversations with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg and the European Union’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, the IAR news agency reported.

Standing in for Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau, Błaszczak emphasised “the need for all countries and organisations in the Euroatlantic sphere to work closely together and coordinate their actions,” amid tensions around Ukraine, the Polish foreign ministry said in a statement.

It added that Poland was in talks with fellow members of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe as it holds the rotating chairmanship of the OSCE in 2022.

Tensions around Ukraine

Thursday's meeting between Duda and Zelensky comes a day after Blinken visited Kyiv, offering assurances that American "material assistance" was already arriving in Ukraine to help the country defend itself in the event of Russian aggression.

Ukraine is expecting the EU and the United States to impose sanctions on Russia, its top diplomat Dmytro Kuleba said.

Moscow has recently amassed over 100,000 troops near its border with Ukraine and demanded that NATO withdraw forces from its eastern flank and not expand further eastward.

The Polish and Ukrainian presidents previously met a month ago in Huta, western Ukraine, together with the Lithuanian leader Gitanas Nausėda, with the three heads of state urging the international community to be firm in its stance towards Russia, the IAR news agency reported.
