The move follows a worsening of the geopolitical situation and cyberattacks in neighbouring Ukraine, officials told reporters.

The government announced that the first and lowest threat alert level would remain in force in the country from 11:59 p.m. on February 15 to 11:59 p.m. on February 28.

"The ALFA-CRP level is a signal for security services and the entire public administration to be particularly vigilant," the Government Centre for Security said in a tweet.

"This means that the administration is obliged to conduct increased monitoring of the state of security of ICT systems," it added.

Poland's anti-terror laws outline four threat levels to be introduced in case of a potential terrorist threat or incident: ALFA, BRAVO, CHARLIE and the highest DELTA, state news agency PAP reported.

At the ALFA level, public authorities are obliged to carry out increased checks of public places and large population gatherings, the news agency reported.

CRP alerts levels are introduced and revoked by the prime minister.

Ukraine said on Tuesday that its defence ministry and two banks had been subject to a cyberattack, appearing to point the finger at Russia, the Reuters news agency reported.
