Helga Maria Schmid, the secretary-general of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), has said that there can be no justification for Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure and cities across Ukraine.

"I am appalled by the attacks against civilian infrastructure and cities across Ukraine," Schmid said, as quoted by Ukrainian state news agency Ukrinform on Wednesday.

"There can be absolutely no justification for such acts, which continue to put millions of Ukrainians at risk,” she added.

Schmid told the Ukrinform news agency in an interview that the OSCE was committed to supporting Ukraine and its people" and was "in constant contact" with its "partners on the ground to examine how we can ramp up and co-ordinate our efforts in this vein."

Since October 10, Russia has fired more than 1,000 missiles and drones at Ukraine’s energy facilities, leading to emergency blackouts across the country, Ukrinform reported.

Poland holds the rotating presidency of the OSCE until the end of this year.
