The statement comes as a response to Russian President Vladimir Putin's recent speech, where he warned of a risk of nuclear war should NATO forces intervene in Ukraine and reiterated his accusations against the West of seeking to destabilize Russia.

Kosiniak-Kamysz, addressing the media on Friday, remarked that Putin's comments "did not come as a surprise but rather as a confirmation of Russia's long-term ambitions, which demand serious consideration."

“For several weeks, we have been stating very clearly - Poland and NATO must be ready for any scenario," Kosiniak-Kamysz said. "Today, the situation is very tense," he added.

The Polish defense minister further stressed the importance of remaining vigilant to the realities of war and its inherent evils, advocating for a continuous fight against the war's destructive impact.

“Europe is waking up,” Kosiniak-Kamysz told reporters, adding that "Russia has been, is and will continue to be a threat to Western civilization."
