Michel's sojourn is part of consultations on the European Council's priorities for the next five years under the so-called Strategic Agenda, Poland’s PAP news agency reported on Monday.

Prior to his discussions in Warsaw, Michel will meet with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Rome on Wednesday.

Following his visit to Warsaw, the European Council president will travel to Vienna on Friday for similar discussions.

Last week, Michel conducted consultations in Vilnius, Lithuania, accompanied by the prime ministers of the Netherlands, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria.

During his visit to Vilnius, Michel emphasised that strengthening the readiness for defence would be one of the EU’s priorities.

He also highlighted the urgent task of further arming Ukraine, the PAP news agency reported.

The European Council's Strategic Agenda outlines the objectives for the heads of the 27 EU member states over a five-year period.

In October last year, EU leaders began discussions on future priorities at an informal summit in Grenada, focusing on six key areas: security and defence, competitiveness, energy, migration, global engagement, and enlargement.

Michel began his consultations in November, visiting Berlin, Copenhagen, Zagreb and Paris. This month, he visited Vilnius and Bucharest.

The European Council is expected to adopt its Strategic Agenda for the 2024-2029 period in June.
