The wpolityce.pl website quoted Stanisław Żaryn as saying that Poland was targeted in a wide-ranging disinformation campaign carried out in manner that echoed Russian propaganda methods.

“The content [of the letter] repeated the themes that are being constantly taken up by Russian propaganda against Poland and the United States”, Żaryn said, as quoted by wpolityce.pl.

The letter was allegedly written by the commander of the War Studies Academy but was a fake, according to wpolityce.pl.

Żaryn said the hacker attack was targeted at Poland’s military policies and Polish-American relations.

The wpolityce.pl website quoted Żaryn as saying that the hackers addressed e-mail requests to various Polish and international institutions, including NATO agencies, to comment on the supposed views of the commander of the War Studies Academy.

In doing so, the hackers used the e-mail address of a former parliamentary deputy from Poland’s opposition Civic Platform party, as well as the address of an American journalist, Żaryn added.

The hacker attack is under investigation by Polish special services, Żaryn said.

The War Studies Academy is the highest military academy in Poland. It works with NATO.
