Russia aims to undermine the national interests of its western neighbour, said Stanisław Żaryn, spokesman for Poland’s security services chief.

Russia “manipulates the image of Poland, NATO and the West, deliberately and cynically lying in order to achieve its goals and harm us at the same time”, Żaryn was cited as saying by CyberDefence24.pl website in an interview.

He added: “On the other hand, it must be remembered that disinformation and propaganda activities are linked to other tools used by Russia.”

“…We are talking about intelligence activities, military provocations, aggressive diplomatic activities and financial and energy measures.”

According to Żaryn, the Kremlin “uses various aggressive methods to strengthen its interests in our region and to support developments in international politics that will allow Russia to maintain its energy and political dominance, as well as military domination in Central and Eastern Europe.”

Żaryn, who also serves as director of the National Security Department at the Polish Prime Minister’s Office, said that Poland is “the most important country in Eastern Europe and, more importantly, the largest country on NATO's eastern flank.”

“Russia's approach to Poland, and more broadly to NATO, makes Russia's disinformation efforts the greatest challenge and even a threat to us”, Żaryn argued in the interview.
